Ozevo

Privacy Policy

Last updated 21 October 2026. This describes the app as it is built today. Features that are built but not switched on yet are marked.

The short version

Who we are

Ozevo is a web and mobile app for finding people to play sports with and places to play. In this policy "Ozevo" and "we" mean the people who run the service.

Privacy questions and requests: support@getozevo.com.

This policy covers the Ozevo web app, the iOS and Android apps, and the pages at this address. It does not cover other sites you reach from the app (shops, retailers, venues).

What we collect

Sign-in
You can sign in with Google, sign in with Apple, or continue as a guest. Google and Apple tell us your name, email address and photo (Ozevo shows you as your buddy and no longer shows account photos; Apple may give a private relay address, or hide your name). A guest has only a random ID. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication. We do not copy your email address into your profile.
Who can see it: Only you and Ozevo. Your email is never shown to other players.
Public profile
Display name, your buddy (the cartoon avatar you pick; Ozevo no longer shows account photos, and a photo saved by an older version of the app stays stored until it is cleaned up), home city, the sports you play, your self-rated levels, and your main and favourite sports. A reliability score may be calculated by Ozevo from your game history.
Who can see it: Players with a full Google or Apple account can open your profile one at a time when they come across you in a game, a group or an invite link. A guest can open only their own profile. Nobody can list, browse or search all profiles.
Guests and the demo
You can look around without an account. A guest is a visitor who is signed out or signed in anonymously: the app keeps a random ID on your device and no email. A guest sees places, the map, Learn and demo games, which are made-up examples labelled "Demo" that no real person created and that carry no personal data. A guest does not see real games, players, chats, who is going, want-to-play posts or friends, and cannot join, chat, post, review, enter tournaments or sync scores. Creating a Google or Apple account is what opens real games. A guest can delete their random ID in the app like any account.
Who can see it: Only you and Ozevo.
Games you host
Sport, date and time, skill level, the place or pin, an optional note (up to 500 characters), and who is hosting. If you start from your current location, the point is rounded to 3 decimals (about 110 m) before it is saved. If you choose a place or drop a pin, the game shows at that place or pin.
Who can see it: Anyone who opens Ozevo, including people who are not signed in.
Games you join
A record that you are going (your user ID and the time). If you cancel or leave, the record is removed.
Who can see it: Signed-in players, so hosts and players can see who is coming.
Want-to-play posts
Sport, a time window, level, an optional short note (up to 140 characters), and a point rounded to about 110 m. Saved with your account while active.
Who can see it: Only you. Other players with a full account see only an anonymous busy level for an area (a few kilometres), sport and four-hour block, and only when three or more different accounts share it: never your post, name, note or point. Guests see nothing.
My map interests
Places or areas you star as "I'd play here". These are private to you. We combine them with other people's into anonymous area levels (see Location).
Who can see it: Only you. Others see only a busy level for an area, once enough people share it.
Kids' programs you save
If you save a children's program, we keep its title, dates and place and the reminder date you chose, so we can show it on your Schedule and remind you when sign-ups open. Only you can see it. We never ask for or store your children's names, ages or photos. Whether the For kids switch is on is kept only on your device.
Check-ins and "How busy was it?"
With "I'm here" at a place, we save your user ID, the place, the sport if you picked one, and the time. The app offers it only when your phone is within about 250 m of the place; your position itself is checked on your device and is not sent or saved. Later you can say whether the place was quiet, had some people, or was busy. These feed anonymous hourly counts for the place. The check-in is removed within about 3 hours (up to a day if clean-up lags), and your answer after about 3 days.
Who can see it: Only you can read your own check-ins and answers. Everyone else sees only a level such as "Usually busy around now", never a person, and a level built from real check-ins only when 3 or more different people are behind it.
Chat in games, groups and tournaments
Messages you send (up to 500 characters), the time, and whether a message was reported or hidden. Chat is open only to the people in that game, group or tournament and needs a full Google or Apple account. A message is checked automatically for abuse, links, phone numbers and email addresses, and is hidden if it fails. Reports from several different people also hide it, counting more when they come from established accounts and less from new, guest or linked accounts. Hidden text is kept for moderators as evidence. We also keep a note of when you last read each chat and whether you muted it, the time of your last message in each chat (to limit speed), and how many messages you have sent in the current minute and day across all chats (the limit is 20 a minute and 500 a day). A message that asks to be paid, names a payment app or states a price or rate is not hidden; it is flagged for moderators, who keep a copy of its text as evidence, and the first time it happens in a chat the other people in that chat see a note not to pay anyone outside the app.
Who can see it: The other people in that chat, and Ozevo moderators. Messages are kept for as long as the chat exists; you can take back your own message unless it has been reported, and deleting your account deletes the messages you wrote (see How long we keep it).
Reviews of places and coaches
Stars, chips, an optional text (up to 280 characters), and a flag if you played a finished game there or had a lesson. We show you as your first name and last initial. A review is checked automatically and is hidden if it contains a link, phone number or email address, or after reports from several different people (weighted as for chat, see Safety checks below).
Who can see it: Anyone who opens Ozevo, for reviews that are visible. You can edit or delete yours unless it is hidden.
Groups
Groups you create or join: your membership, role, and name and buddy shown to other members, join requests, news posts from leaders, and weekly games a group schedules. A group has an invite code that leaders can see.
Who can see it: A group's name, sport, area and member count are public. Member names are for members of that group.
Friends and invites
A friend profile (display name, and two switches: whether people can find you by searching, and whether your friends can see the games you are going to), friend requests, and game invites. If you allow it, accepted friends can see the games you have joined.
Who can see it: Search lists only people who have "can be found" on. Both switches start on once you open Friends, and you can turn them off in Friends privacy.
Scores and results
If you keep score, results you save (sport, date, scores, who played, and the place if you attach one). Other players can be people with accounts or just a name you type. You can keep results on your device only. When you are signed in they sync, and the other side is asked to confirm. Leaderboards are off unless you turn them on. With Friends and groups, your display name, buddy and counts can appear on your friends' and your groups' boards; with Everyone, also on place, city, state, country and worldwide boards. Not available for guests.
Who can see it: A result is readable only by its players. A board shows only people who opted in.
Training plans
Your answers, finished sessions and notes in the training coach (it is not AI).
Who can see it: Only you.
Device location
With your permission, your device location centres the map and finds games and places near you. We do not keep a trail of where you have been. Your phone or browser asks you first, and you can turn it off in system settings.
Who can see it: Not shared by itself. Only the rounded points above are ever saved.
Forms and messages
Lesson requests to coaches (your name, a message up to 500 characters, preferred times), coach applications (name, bio, certificates, rate, area, contact email), tournament entries (name, partner name, waiver acceptance time), academy listings, reports and shop suggestions, "notify me" sign-ups, and "I'd ask Coach..." notes.
Who can see it: Ozevo staff. A lesson request is also read by the coach you chose. Players with an account can see who has entered a tournament (name, partner name).
Ask Coach chats
The messages you send to Coach (up to 800 characters each) and its answers, plus a thumbs up or down if you give one. See Ask Coach below.
Who can see it: Only you. We do not read chats except to investigate abuse, safety problems or a bug you report.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, a device token from Firebase Cloud Messaging and your notification settings (such as which kinds you want and quiet hours). We may send reminders, game changes, chat messages you have not muted, group and friend requests, and result confirmations.
Who can see it: Only you and our systems.
Reports, bans and safety records
When you report a game, player, place or message we keep the report (the reason, an optional message of up to 500 characters, what it is about, and the time) so moderators can act on it. If other players report you, or a moderator acts on your account (hides a game, suspends or bans the account), we keep the reports, the action and its reason. A ban is also kept as a one-way hashed marker: a keyed hash of your Google or Apple sign-in identity and verified email, with the reason and end date, and no name, email or user ID. It survives deleting your account, so deleting and signing up again does not lift a ban. legal review: confirm the retention purpose (preventing ban evasion) and the maximum time the marker is kept; today it is kept as long as the ban lasts, with no clean-up of expired markers
Who can see it: Ozevo moderators. You can see your own ban notice.
Your agreement to the Terms
When you tap "Agree and continue" on the "Before you play" screen we save that you agreed, which version of the Terms and Community Guidelines you saw (and the dates of those pages), the time, the language the app was shown in, whether it was the web, iOS or Android app, which wording applied (US or European), a country hint taken from your device's region setting (never your position), the app version, and your statement that you are 18 or older. It is a record of a click, not an identity check, and it is kept so we can show what you agreed to.
Who can see it: You (it is in your account data) and Ozevo. Only our server writes it; no one else sees it.
Safety checks on accounts
To catch fake accounts, spam and coordinated abuse, our server looks at your IP address each time you open the app signed in (guests too), as any website does. We do not save the address. We save a keyed one-way hash of its network (the first part of the address, which many people on the same Wi-Fi or mobile carrier share): up to 10 per account, for 30 days. We also keep an hourly count of new Google and Apple accounts per network, with their user IDs, for 2 days. For each account we keep an automated risk score and a list of what raised it (for example chat filter hits, reports from other players with the reporter's ID, many games, friend requests or reviews in a day, many new accounts from one network), for about 60 days, and an audit trail of the same length. A report counts for less when it comes from a new or guest account, from someone linked to you by blocking, or from an account that mostly reports people wrongly. The score can lead to a chat mute of 24 hours or a ban of 24 or 72 hours; it decides nothing permanent, and a moderator can undo it. If you are banned you can appeal in the app; we keep the appeal text (5 to 1,000 characters) and the answer. A chat mute is kept until it ends. This is automated decision-making about your account; you can ask a person to review it by appealing or by emailing us.
Who can see it: Ozevo moderators. You see only the notice of a mute or ban, and the answer to your appeal.
Blocked players
A private list of the players you block.
Who can see it: Only you.
Usage and error counts
The app counts which screens and features are used and which calls fail, and sends one small summary about once a minute. It holds a short pseudonymous ID (a one-way hash of your user ID, not your name or email), the day, the app version and platform (web, iOS or Android), and counts. It holds no names, places, searches or coordinates. Errors are saved once per day per kind of error, with a cleaned-up error text and the screen name; email addresses, links, coordinates and long IDs are removed first. They are marked to expire after at most 40 days. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy, "Help improve Ozevo".
Who can see it: Ozevo.
Analytics and crash reports
Firebase Analytics records which screens and features are used, how you signed in, app version, device and operating system type, and approximate region. On the mobile apps, Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy, "Help improve Ozevo": the same switch stops Firebase Analytics, crash reports and our own usage counts on that device, and the account ID attached to them.
Who can see it: Ozevo and its service providers.
Affiliate link taps
Not active yet. When it is, a tap on a retailer link we are paid for creates an anonymous click record (link, screen, time, platform; no name, email or user ID).
Who can see it: Ozevo.

How we handle location

  • Rounding. Games you host from GPS and want-to-play posts are saved at 3 decimals of latitude and longitude, about 110 m. A place or pin you choose is shown exactly where you put it, so do not drop a pin on your home.
  • Searching. To show what is nearby, the app asks our database for games, posts and places in the map area you are looking at. Those requests carry an area, not a continuous track of you.
  • Check-ins. Your position is compared with the place on your device. It is not sent. What is saved is the place and the time.
  • Share my location. Only if you choose it. You pick who sees it (all your friends, one group you are in, or the players of one game) and for how long (1 hour, until your game ends, 4 hours or until 10 PM), and you can stop at any time. While the app is open it saves your position rounded to about 110 m and sends it again every few minutes; it does not run in the background and keeps no history. Only the people you picked can read it, shown as your buddy on their map with the time it ends. It is deleted when you stop or when it ends (the server clears an ended one within about 20 minutes), and with your account.
  • Address lookup. The mobile apps may turn your coordinates into a street or city name using your phone's built-in service (Apple or Google).
  • Live heat. The map can show how busy an area is. We build it from the places people have starred as interests, grouped into areas of a few kilometres by sport and time of day. We show only a level (1 to 3), never a person, and only when at least three different accounts share the same area, sport and time. This reduces, but cannot completely remove, the chance that someone is picked out in a small area.
  • Want-to-play posts. Your posts are private to you. For the map, the server builds an anonymous feed per area (a few kilometres), sport and four-hour block with a level only, from three or more different accounts, with no user ID, point or note. A level changes only after it has held for about ten minutes.
  • "Likely busy" estimates. For each place we show an estimate built from open data about the place (its size, lights, hours, what is nearby) and the weather. It uses no information about you.
  • Weather. To adjust those estimates the app asks the US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) for the forecast at the place's position, rounded to a grid of about 2 km. Your own position is not sent. The service sees your IP address, as any website does. Outside the US there is no forecast and the estimate is used without it.

How we use it

  • To run Ozevo: show games and places, let people join, chat, send reminders, and notify you when a game you joined changes or is cancelled.
  • To keep it safe: filter and review chat and reviews, handle reports, remove content, and suspend accounts that break the Community Guidelines.
  • To answer you: support requests, data requests, coach and tournament forms.
  • To improve it: understand which features are used, find and fix crashes, and plan coverage.
  • To meet legal duties and defend ourselves against claims.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.

Who we share it with

We use these providers to run the service. They act on our instructions, except where noted.

Google (Firebase and Google Cloud)
Hosting, sign-in, our database (Cloud Firestore, in the United States), server functions, push notifications, analytics and crash reports. Data is processed in the United States.
Google Maps and Places
The map and place photos. Your device talks to Google to load map tiles, which gives Google your IP address and device details. Place photos are looked up through our server using the place's name and location (not yours), then loaded from Google with the photographer's credit shown.
Google Fonts
The web app loads its text font from Google when you open it, which gives Google your IP address.
Google and Apple sign-in
If you use them, Google or Apple tells us who you are, under their own privacy terms.
Anthropic
Only if you use Ask Coach. See below.
US National Weather Service
Forecast at a place's rounded position, as described under location. Public service; no account.
Google Calendar and Google Maps links
"Add to calendar" and "Directions" open Google in your browser or app with the game's title, time and place filled in. This happens only when you tap, and then Google's terms apply.
Retailers and affiliate networks
If you tap a link to a shop, you leave Ozevo and that site's own privacy policy applies. Links we are paid for are marked. The retailer or network may set cookies to credit us.
OpenStreetMap and other open data
Many places, shops and routes come from OpenStreetMap contributors and other public datasets. This is data we import on our servers; your device does not send them anything unless you open their link.
Coaches, other players and the public
As described in the table above.
Legal and safety
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect someone's safety, or to enforce our terms. If Ozevo is sold or reorganised, data may move to the new owner under this policy.

Ask Coach (AI)

Ask Coach is an AI sports assistant. It is a beta, can be wrong, and is not medical advice.

  • 18 and over. Ozevo is for adults, and you tick "I'm 18 or older" before you use it, so Ask Coach asks nothing more about your age.
  • What is sent. Your message and the chat so far, the sport you picked, your self-rated levels for your sports, your home city, and your language setting. We do not send your name, email, photo or exact location. Anthropic receives an opaque ID (a one-way hash of your account ID), not the account ID itself.
  • Who processes it. Anthropic (the company behind Claude) generates the answer. It handles your messages under its commercial API terms, which do not let it train its models on them.
  • What we keep. Your chats are saved so you can come back to them. We keep your 20 most recent chats, and you can delete them yourself at any time in Coach.
  • Limits. Coach has daily limits per person and overall. Do not put sensitive information (health details, other people's personal data) in a message.

Affiliate links and money

Some gear, shop or experience links may earn Ozevo a commission when you buy, at no extra cost to you. When a link is paid, it is labelled next to the link (for example "We earn a commission if you buy"). Links to local independent shops are never paid and carry no label. We do not put paid links in the join flow, in safety information, or in Ask Coach answers. Our picks do not depend on commission.

See Terms, third-party links and, in the app, Gear, "How we recommend".

How long we keep it

Account and profile
Until you delete your account.
Your agreement to the Terms
Until you delete your account.
Private settings, interests, blocks, training
Until you delete your account, or you remove them yourself.
Saved kids' programs
Until you remove them or delete your account.
Games you hosted or joined
Kept after the game so players can see their history. When you delete your account, your join records are removed, your future games are cancelled, and past games lose their link to you.
Want-to-play posts
Shown while the time window is open, then marked expired. Removed when you delete your account.
Check-ins and answers
Check-ins about 3 hours; answers about 3 days. Anonymous hourly place counts without any ID: about 12 weeks.
Chat messages
For as long as the chat exists, or until you take one back. Messages do not expire on their own, and a chat is not removed for being quiet. When you delete your account, every message you wrote is deleted, as are the reports you filed on other people's messages, your read marks and mutes and your message counts, and the chat list no longer shows your last message. Copies kept as evidence for moderators (of hidden messages, and of messages flagged for asking to be paid) go with the chat; once you delete your account they no longer name you.
Reviews
Until you delete them or your account.
Scores and results
While any player in the result still has an account. A result nobody confirmed and that was voided is removed after about 6 months. Leaderboard entries expire about 4 months after their last update.
Ask Coach chats
Until you delete them; only your 20 most recent chats are kept. Usage counters for limits are kept for about 5 weeks.
Safety checks
Hashed networks: 30 days. New-account counts per network: 2 days. Risk scores and their audit trail: about 60 days after the last event. Chat mutes: until they end. Appeals: until you delete your account. When you delete your account these records are deleted too, and your ID as a reporter in another player's risk record is replaced with "deleted".
Reports and lesson requests
Kept for safety and records, but no longer tied to you once you delete your account. This includes reports other players filed about you: they are kept, anonymised, as moderation history and no longer carry your ID or a link to you.
Ban records
If you delete your account while banned, a one-way hashed marker of your sign-in identity (no name, email or user ID) is kept for as long as the ban lasts, so a returning account is banned again. set and state a maximum retention, and switch on clean-up of expired markers
Usage and error counts
Up to 40 days. Daily totals that hold no ID are kept as plain statistics.
Analytics and crash data
Kept by Firebase Analytics for a limited time (at most 14 months).
Click records (when active)
About 400 days.
Backups and logs
Backups of the database and server logs are kept for a limited time. Deleted data can remain in them until they expire.

Your choices and rights

  • In the app. Edit your profile, change notification settings, delete Coach chats, take back chat messages, edit or delete your reviews, turn off usage counting, and turn location off in your device settings.
  • Delete everything. Profile, Settings, Privacy, Delete Account, or use the delete-account page.
  • See or export your data. Profile, Settings, Privacy, Download your data gives you one file (JSON) with what we keep about you: your profile and settings, games you host or joined, alerts, scores, friends, groups, lessons, reviews, reports, check-ins and chat messages you wrote. Other people appear by display name only. You can do this up to three times a day, and it may ask you to sign in again first. Some internal safety records are not in the file. If a part could not be included, the file says so. If you cannot use the app, email support@getozevo.com from the address you signed in with. We aim to reply within 30 days.
  • Correct your data. Edit it in the app, or email us.
  • US state rights. Depending on where you live (for example California, Washington and other states) you may have the right to know, access, correct, delete and port your data, and to appeal a refusal. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising. Location rounded to 110 m can count as precise location under some state laws, so we treat it as sensitive and use it only to run the features above.
  • EEA, UK or Switzerland. Ozevo is offered in the United States. If that changes, this policy will be updated with what the law requires where you live, before the app is offered there.

We will not treat you worse for using these rights.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access to the database is controlled by rules that limit what each account can read and write. Staff and admin tools use separate permissions. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong sign-in method and tell us if you think your account was misused.

Children

Ozevo is for people 18 and over, and you tick "I'm 18 or older" when you agree to the Terms. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it. The For kids section is for parents and guardians to find places and programs. It does not collect information about your children.

Changes and contact

If we make a material change, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and update the date at the top.
